MEeville to WEville exemplifies allowable use of ARRA funds consistent with the principle of strengthening and expanding education by providing resources to align state content standards for grades K-3 as outlined under Title I, Part A. IDEA part B ARRA funding suggests using research based quality literacy curriculums to increase student achievement.
MEville to WEville is the first researched literacy program for students with significant disabilities. The early literacy and communication curriculum was created specifically to target the needs of students who have difficulties learning to read and write through traditional methods. The program was designed to build a classroom community that promotes a sense of belonging over the course of three units, which offer students a new and different perspective on themselves, their families, and their school and incorporates assistive technology like AbleNet’s BIG Step-by-Step communicator into the lessons.
